PANDEMIC PORTRAITS
MICHELLE MACKINNON
MARCH 30 - APRIL 15
A series of more than 100 watercolour paintings born out of the challenges and related circumstances of the pandemic. Isolated by lockdown and restricted access to studio space, over the last year MacKinnon adapted her practice by creating specific parameters for a series of portraits. These delicate paintings, each completed in under three hours, balance acknowledgement of individual isolation and anxiety with resolute perseverance fueled by communal connection. As a whole the Pandemic Portraits map a provincial community, while sensitively questioning the pressures of productivity, underscoring the importance of mindfulness and care for ourselves and others in a global pandemic.
This exhibition is made possible by the support of Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
