Nikuti’kw: Growing together
A student response exhibition by the ENVP6528 Mi’kmaw Perspectives on Sustainability class, curated by course instructor Avery Velez
DECEMBER 5 - FEBRUARY 1
Opening Reception
Thursday, December 5, 2024
7:00 to 9:00 PM
Nikuti’kw: Growing Together is a representation of students’ experiences learning and growing together in ENVP6528: Mi’kmaw Perspectives on Sustainability. Over the course of the semester, the class spent time together on the land in Ewipkek (Flat Bay), in communities in Nujio’qonik (Bay St George) and Elmastukwek (Bay of Islands), and in the classroom learning from Mi’kmaw Elders, knowledge holders, and community members. Together, we learned about culture, language, history, health, science, treaties, and rights and recognition and how all of these things come together to influence community and environmental sustainability. Featuring the bear hide we worked on together as a class, photo journals, sculptures, poetry, and videos, this exhibit is the culmination of the work we have done so far and represents where we are in our journey as we move forward from this class to continue our learning and growing into the future.
